We’re a British sports nutrition company focused on the recovery part of the nutrition equation.
Starting with breakfast: the lowest hanging fruit for most busy amateur athletes.
Introducing CHOP.
CHO + P.
The name CHOP comes from the macros which are central to the athlete’s nutrition plan: carbohydrates (CHO) and protein (P).
A standard serving of CHOP contains a healthy dose of slow-burning carbs, and 33g of protein, making it the perfect support to the recovery which follows training.
Of course, good food is more complicated that.
CHOP also contains a wide range of macros and nutrients vital to healthy breakfasts, as well as the flavours and variety and textures that make a breakfast choice sustainable and appealing in the long term. For more info, see Why Chop?
Action Nutrition.
“Action Nutrition” is our term for real food intended for people doing real sport.
More filling than quick meal replacement shakes.
More convenient than a home cooked breakfast.
Healthier than a takeaway breakfast grabbed on the way to work.
Founder’s story.
I developed the recipes for CHOP while juggling a busy professional job in London, with newborn second child and preparation for my second Ironman (entered before the reality of a second child was revealed).
It’s since been tested and refined with endurance athletes across disciplines including cycling, swimrun, Ironman triathlon - even military personnel in demanding circumstances.
My training was normally early, before the family woke. When you’re getting up at 5.30am to train you want to know you’re squeezing the full benefits from the plan and not compromising on recovery.
But breakfast also needed to be tasty, or I would be tempted to “reward” myself with takeaway breakfasts.
And it needed to be easy or it wouldn’t happen.
I eventually settled on making large batches of overnight oats, enriched with organic whey protein, experimenting with dozens of different recipe variations to settle on a few I could rotate.
I went on to PB at Ironman Copenhagen, beating my debut time by nearly 1.5 hrs. It’s not a KQ yet, but on the limited training I’ll take it. That journey continues…
CHOP is developed from what worked for me. I hope it can work for you too, whatever your goals.
