We’re a Hertfordshire, UK-based company focused on the recovery part of the nutrition equation.
Starting with breakfast: the lowest hanging fruit for most busy amateur athletes.
Introducing CHOP.
CHO + P.
The name CHOP comes from the macros which are central to the athlete’s nutrition plan: carbohydrates (CHO) and protein (P).
A standard serving of CHOP contains a healthy dose of slow-burning carbs, and 30g of protein, making it the perfect support to the recovery which follows training.
Of course, good food is more complicated that.
CHOP also contains a wide range of macros and nutrients vital to healthy breakfasts, as well as the flavours and variety and textures that make a breakfast choice sustainable and appealing in the long term. For more info, see Why Chop?
Why The Protein Focus?
CHOP contains a healthy dose of slow-burn carbohydrates and a complex multivitamin, so it is an all-round breakfast.
But the central differentiator from the average breakfast is the substantial dose of protein too. Why is this?
We’re well past the days when protein was something for body-builders and endurance athletes ate carbs. Protein is accepted as just as vital to support training towards ultra marathoning, triathlon and cycling, and top performers will aim for similar daily quantities as bulk and strength-focused athletes.
The central problem is reaching the daily totals. A 70kg individual participating in medium intensity training needs 98-140g of protein daily (consensus range).
The catch is that the amount of protein that can be utilised for muscle protein synthesis is limited to 20-40g per serving, depending on the individual. So you can’t just have an enormous serving at lunch time and dinner and make up for a low quality breakfast.
Or to put it another way, if you’re not consuming 20-40g of protein at breakfast, it’s very hard to reach the level you need daily.
Action Nutrition.
“Action Nutrition” is our term for real food intended for people doing real sport.
More filling than quick meal replacement shakes.
More convenient than a home cooked breakfast.
Healthier than a takeaway breakfast grabbed on the way to work.
